Everyday Life at University in Bali

There is so much to tell. So i'll just show you a typical daily routine during my time in Bali.

I woke up early in the morning most days with the sunrise. I like to get up early so I was the first one in our house to get up. After about 10 minutes in the bathroom, I had breakfast downstairs and packed my backpack for the upcoming lectures. I lived in Seminyak at that time and had to ride my scooter from our house to the university in Jimbaran every day. The distance is about 15km, but sometimes it took me up to an hour to get to uni. It always depended on the traffic at the sunset road. The traffic in Bali is horrible, but that's another story...

I always got very hot on the ride because we had to wear clothes that covered our knees and shoulders. I also had a closed helmet that was black. Underneath it was often a climate of its own, especially when you ride for an hour under the blazing sun. When I arrived at the university, I first had to find a parking space among the hundreds of other students' scooters and then remember where I parked my scooter until the afternoon. That was really hard sometimes and I walked around the car park for minutes looking for my scooter.

I usually only had two or three lectures a day. During the lunch break, we often went to our favourite Warung (small Indonesian restaurant) near the university and had Nasi Goreng (fried rice with vegetables). At university, I met many students from Europe, but mainly from Germany. Unfortunately, about 80% of the students in my class were german, so it wasn't really international... nevertheless, we even had classes with the local students, which I personally found very cool! The classes with the indonesian students were the most fun! Everyone was so curious to get to know us and asked a lot of questions about our home country and us. When I was lucky, they also took me to their favourite Warung, where of course they had the best food at very reasonable prices.
Sometimes I went to a beach in Jimbaran with a few other students after the last lecture. There's nothing like an hour of surfing after sitting in your chair at the university all morning. We really let off steam before heading back home on the scooter through the terrible midday traffic.
Pergi ke uni di Bali sangat menyenangkan bagi saya.
-> Going to uni in Bali was a lot of fun for me.
University life in Bali is definitely different from here in Germany, that's for sure! But it's a good different and a lot of fun. I learned a lot about other cultures and even some Indonesian.
